Supporting Spatial Reasoning: Identifying Aspects of Length, Area, and Volume in Textbook Definitions

چکیده
Length, area, and volume share structural similarities enabling flexibility in reasoning for real-world applications. Deep understanding of structures can help teachers connect these concepts to support their students’ mathematical practices involving situations. In mathematics textbooks designed future teachers, definitions length, vary from procedural (e.g., use a ruler measure side lengths, formulas calculate measures) conceptual construct appropriate n-dimensional units that tessellate the space) formal function mapping qualitative size quantity units). Most describe as quantitative measurements provide examples standard units. Definitional aspects such describing an attribute or measurement, identifying dimensionality space, constructing nonstandard are inconsistently acknowledged across textbooks. Attending definitional spatial attributes quantification open conversations about structure essential meanings volume.

Length, Area and Volume Computation in Homogeneous Coordinates
Many problems solved in computer graphics, computer vision, visualization etc. require fast and robust computation of an area of a triangle or volume of a tetrahedron. These very often used algorithms are well known and robust if vertices coordinates of triangles or tetrahedrons are given in Euclidean coordinates. The homogeneous coordinates are often used for the representation of geometric tr...

this study investigates the cohesive devices used in the textbook of english for the students of psychology. the research questions and hypotheses in the present study are based on what frequency and distribution of grammatical and lexical cohesive devices are. then, to answer the questions all grammatical and lexical cohesive devices in reading comprehension passages from 6 units of 21units th...
Scleral Cross Section Area and Volume and Axial Length
PURPOSE To examine whether the scleral cross sectional area and estimated scleral volume are associated with a longer axial length in human eyes. METHODS Histologic anterior-posterior sections running through the pupil and the optic nerve head were examined. Using a light microscope, we measured the thickness of the sclera at the limbus, ora serrata, equator, midpoint between equator and post...
متن کاملSpatial and Qualitative Aspects of Reasoning about Motion
Reasoning about motion is an important part of common sense knowledge. The spatial and qualitative aspects of reasoning about motion through fret space arc studied through the construction of a program to perform such reasoning. An analog gcomctry rcprcscntation serves as a diagram, and descriptions of both the actual motion of a ball and envisioning are used in answering simple questions.
متن کاملDeformation with enforced metrics on length, area and volume
Techniques have been developed to deform a mesh with multiple types of constraints. One limitation of prior methods is that the accuracy of demanded metrics on the resultant model cannot be guaranteed. Adding metrics directly as hard constraints to an optimization functional often leads to unexpected distortion when target metrics differ significant from what are on the input model. In this pap...
